Intramurals let students continue to play

USD has a variety of intramural sports students can participate in.  Students who are interested in recreational activities at the USD can choose from many sports.

Each sport offers different skill levels for men vs. men, women vs. women, and co-ed competition. Students can participate in intramural sports during the entire school year.

Whether you’re looking to have a good time, a way to meet new people, an activity to help keep you in shape, or all of the above, USD intramurals has something for you.

Below is a preview of a few of the intramural sports USD has to offer.

Flag Football

Flag football is available for both male and co-ed teams. It’s an exercising event which requires players from the opposing team to grab the flag from the ball carrier.  USD has games that start  in the fall and spring.  Cost ranges from $10- $20 per team.

Tennis

For the tennis players and fans out there, USD has what you need.  Sign up with a tennis racquet and ball in hand and come ready to play.  Tennis singles and doubles are offered for both men and women.  There is no cost for entering either event.

Basketball

Basketball is one of the most popular intramural sports with the highest participation at USD. The school provides 3 on 3, 5 on 5, a 3-point shootout and a free-throw competition.  Leagues range in price from $10-$20 and take place in both the fall semester and spring semester. 

You can also a NCAA bracket during USD’s annual March Madness Bracket Tourney.

Dodgeball

One of the classic games from gym class is offered as an intramural sport at USD. The rules are if you get hit by the ball, you are out and you will have to wait for the new round. It’s exactly the same, unchanged rules since elementary school. The league cost is $15 per team.

Volleyball

Anyone can join the volleyball intramural league.  USD has different skill levels for the participants.  USD has male-only teams, women-only teams and co-ed teams. The volleyball intramural league is offered during the fall and the spring semesters. League cost is $20 per team.

Golf

Do you feel you have the best golf swing at USD? Can you brush off the pressure the greens have to offer? Then you can prove it by competing in the intramural golf tournamen during the spring semester. Cost is $15 per player and is played at The Bluffs, Vermillion’s golf course. Don’t forget to bring your Big Bertha driver.

Raquetball

USD has two raquetball courts located in the DakotaDome, which means USD offers it as an intramural sport and is offered during both semesters. In the fall, students can sign up for the singles competition or the co-ed doubles tournament. During the spring, regular raquetball doubles is offered. All of the tournaments are free to sign up for.

Softball

USD has four softball fields and each one is put to use during the spring semester. Students are able to sign up for both a regular softball team or a co-ed team. The cost for either league is $20 per team. USD also has a home run derby during the spring season.
