The Vermillion City Council proclaimed May 1 as Silver Star Banner Day to honor wounded and ill soldiers.

The proclamation, read by councilman Kent Osborn, states wherever the Silver Star Banner flag is flown, people can remember wounded and ill
soldiers across the community and state.

Also at the meeting, the council passed a transfer of the retail on sale liquor and on-off malt beverage license from the current owner of Carey’s Bar to the new owner, Matthew Zeman.

Zeman, a USD alum works as an Academic Compliance officer for the NCAA and has worked at Carey’s Bar part time since 1999.
