The Vermillion City Council approved Dance Marathon’s request for a fireworks permit.
The fireworks display will be set off by Fireworks Unlimited of Vermillion as part of the annual 24-hour event that raises money for Children’s Miracle Network. This year it is set to begin at noon March 27. The fireworks will fly at 9 p.m.
Junior Dzenan Berberovic, Dance Marathon entertainment co-chair, spoke at the meeting and said the event will include 150 to 400 participants.
Berberovic said the money raised by Dance Marathon stays close to home, with all proceeds benefiting children who go to the Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls.
Fellow co-chair senior Amber Lutt said families directly affected by the Children’s Miracle Network come to the marathon to celebrate and show their appreciation for the donations they have received . This is the second year the fireworks will be included in the celebration.
This year’s theme is Dr. Suess.
“Last year the fireworks fit into the theme, and they do this year as well,” Lutt said. “The kids and families loved the display last year.”
Mayor Dan Christopherson commended the representatives for their work in raising money for families and children with medical needs.
“We wish you a successful event and congratulate you for taking on this challenge,” Christopherson said. “It’s great for the community and the college.”
Berberovic said the event benefits kids, the lives of kids, and families who have been impacted by Children’s Miracle Network.
“It’s really a celebration of life,” Berberovic said.
