Sioux Falls has elected a new mayor.
Mike Huether beat Kermit Staggers with 18,264 votes over Staggers 13,968 votes in a run-off election Tuesday. With six mayoral candidates receiving less than a majority vote in the general election April 13, Huether and Staggers went heat-to-head ending the election process last night.
Huether ran his campaign presenting a platform focused on replacing the 50-year-old events center, creating good paying jobs, improving road conditions, working to make airline travel more affordable to and from the Sioux Falls airport and cutting city government waste.
Huether, born in Yankton, S.D., earned a Bachelor’s degree in commercial economics from South Dakota State University. He has served Citicorp with 15 years of employment in South Dakota, New York and Texas as vice president. Huether also served on the governor’s task force on health insurance organizations.
Huether lives with his wife, Cindy and daughter, Kylie.
