USD’s Student Government Association allocated $625 to the Political Science League to help the organization bring Harvard Professor Theda Skocpol to campus for the first lecture in the W.O. Farber Public Affairs Lecture Series.
PSL plans to hold this event annually in honor of the memory of the former USD political science professor it is named for.
Patrick Morrison, PSL president, said Skocpol is well respected in both sociology and political science.
“We wanted to make sure we had a lecturer who has had as large an impact on political science as Doc Farber had on USD,” Morrison said.
PSL was also allocated an additional $2,300 from the Farber Fund to bring Skocpol to campus.
The lecture will be held April 19 at 7 p.m. in the Muenster University Center Ballroom.
Sen. Laura Hofer voted in favor of the bill and said she believes Skocpol’s lecture will not only attract political science students but will address issues that interest students in several fields of study.
“We really feel like she’ll cut across all disciplines so we’re hoping everyone comes,” Hofer said. “They’ll really enjoy her.”
