Clark, we never preached following rules. We preached that no one could keep the law, that is why Christ, the perfect sinless man, yet fully God, who was tempted in every way which we are but without sin, took the wrath of God on our behalf. He was punished for us, and what we must do is admit that we are completely helpless, completely guilty, and repent and trust Christ alone for our salvation.

I urge you to consider Christ- read the Gospel of John.

Exactly, no one is righteous, but it is clear that following every rule in the bible makes one LESS righteous, not more. We should be working on improving our morality, and we have been over time, but to say we should go back to a bronze age morality where women could be killed at a moment's notice, where virgins were forced to marry their rapists, where it was okay to sell your daughter into slavery, where handicapped people weren't allowed in church is just stupid and irresponsible. We have grown more moral and righteous as we have turned away from the rules in the bible, and we will become more righteous as we turn from more.

Well, Clark, you have become wise in your own eyes, but the omniscient, omnipresent, and omnipotent God knows you and humankind better than we know ourselves. "professing to be wise, they became fools" How can you laud the compassion of the rulers in Darfur? Pakistan? Afghanistan? Read the newspaper sometime and observe how many murders, thefts, rapes, etc. there are and you can agree with God- there is no one that is righteous, not even ONE....

I agree with you John, the Bible does support a lot of what you preach. Which is exactly why we need to see the Bible as what it is - a book written by bronze age tribes without any mediocum of science or modern morality. In the thousands of years since it was written we have learned more about ourselves and other people, about how societies should function and how we should treat each other. We have outgrown the dated principles espoused in the Bible. Most of society agrees that we shouldn't stone rebellious sons or women who don't bleed on their wedding night. It is time we all agree to put the dark period of following the Bible behind us and become more moral, kind, compassionate people.

Jesus did not say love God love people. Jesus said you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul mind and strength and love your neighbor as yourself. It is our love for God which makes us preach the message He gives us, without regard to opinions about how we should do it.

Becca calls us hypocrites and judgmental? John 7:24 says we should judge using right judgment (dictated by scripture) She is judging because her feelings are hurt, and her toes got stepped on. I hope Becca will blow the dust off of her Bible and read what it says.

Remember Becca, going to church and Christian school makes you a Christian like going to McDonalds daily makes you a hamburger.

Great job cutting and pasting!
The Bible does not say what that young lady said it does. Being a hypocrite is being an actor (greek word) and Shawn and I were simply obeying what the Bible says- Go into all the world and PREACH the GOSPEL to EVERY CREATURE!
We hope and pray that some will be saved at Vermillion. See you next year!

Frankly, it's just nice to see USD students interested and active in a subject that deals more with intellectual curiosity and ideas than with drinking. I hope more events like this occur if this is what it takes.
