Zombies swarmed the USD campus last weekend.

The invasion was part of an event called Humans Versus Zombies, an elaborate game of tag organized by junior Elyse Taylor.

“I think it went really well,” Taylor said. “Everyone seemed to have a lot of fun.”

Taylor estimated that about 200 people participated in the event, which lasted from 10 a.m. Saturday until 10 p.m. Sunday.

She invited students to take part in the game using a Facebook group.

According to the group’s description, the game begins with most players starting out as humans while a handful are randomly selected to begin as zombies. The zombies then attempted to tag the humans, thereby turning them into zombies as well.

Taylor decided to organize the game after learning about the concept from a friend that attends SDSU. Her friend had tried to organize a similar event at her school but the dean of students denied her permission.

Taylor was able to secure permission to hold the event from USD dean of students James Parker.

Parker’s only stipulation was that participants cleaned up after themselves.

Junior Janelle Thornton participated in the event and was one of the last humans left at the end of the game.

“It was a really fun way to spend a weekend,” Thornton said. “It brought a lot of people together that didn’t know each other.”

Taylor said she would like to put on the event next year as well but said she would like to have more help in organizing it.
