THE VOLANTE, 2010

EDITOR’S NOTE: Each week The Volante sports staff will interview a member of the USD athletic community and ask them off-the-wall questions. Enjoy the hilarity.

Sinjin Wilkerson is a freshman on the men’s swimming and diving team. He swims sprints and the backstroke and is from Hastings, Minn. He is majoring in languages at USD. Wilkensen holds a personal record of 54.39 in the 100 meter fly, and also 54.10 in the 100-yard backstroke.

Sarah Paulus: What sort of music do you like to listen to?

Sinjin Wilkerson: Rap, hip hop, R&B. That’s about it.

SP: Since you are taking Arabic, do you ever listen to Arabic rap?

SW: Occasionally. I like to mix up different music and genre types and cultural stuff like that.

SP: So what is one of the craziest things that has ever happened to you in a pool?

SW: I don’t know. It’s more like a joy ride because you never actually know what’s going to happen until it’s too late. And it’s like that every day.

SP: So is that why you enjoy swimming?

SW: Yeah, it’s something new, it’s challenging, it’s not like wrestling where you are put into a certain group like weight and height differences.

SP: Were you ever a wrestler?

SW: No, I used to play basketball, track, soccer, now swimming. Because you never know what you are going to do.

SP: Are there any sort of fun things the team likes to do together on road trips?

SW: Usually we end up talking to each other, watching a movie or just doing your own things.

SP: What sort of movies do you like to watch?

SW: All sorts, comedy, action, scary movies.

SP: Would you agree that “Scary Movie” is not a scary movie?

SW: “Scary Movie” is not a scary movie.

SP: What brought you to USD?

SW: Swimming, and I just felt like it was somewhere I could fit into. That’s pretty much it.

SP: Do you like being in a smaller town?

SW: I prefer the city but small towns are alright, a lot quieter most of the time.

SP: Do you have any plans for over spring break?

SW: Not really, just hanging out and visiting some people.

SP: Would you ever go on a spring break trip to Florida and party?

SW: Oh yeah, it would beat staying up in the north. I’d love to do that.
