The United Nations Energy Conference begins December ninth in Copenhagen, Denmark. USD grad student Leighann Dunn will be there. Dunn is representing a veteran’s organization called Operation Free.

Operation Free is composed of Iraq and Afghanistan veterans who see the United States dependency on foreign oil as a threat to National Security. They are encouraging the development and use of renewable energies such as wind, solar, and biofuels.

Dunn says her tour of duty “I just want to bring my perspective to the table. I’m not an environmentalist. I’m not a conservationist. I’m a veteran and I have a unique perspective.”

Dunn has served in the military for nine years. She is the president of the USD Veteran’s Club, and was named one of ten outstanding young South Dakotans this fall.

A public information meeting regarding operation free is scheduled for Wednesday, December ninth at two o’clock in the Munster University Center.
